ABOUT US

We’ve got passion for craft brewing and we want to share it with you.

Raw grit & rebellious spirit

Wellington’s only craft beer village with a number of great craft breweries, a variety of entertainment venues and a boutique distillery and within walking distance of the Upper Hutt train station. A place where mates come to escape, to throw back a few cold ones, and to make memories they may or may not remember.

Our team have spent years working with crafty brewers, restaurateurs and entertainment provider to bring you the best the Wellington craft beer scene has to offer in one place.

We keep it raw, we keep it loud, and we definitely keep it fun. So, ditch the pretentious vibes, grab a pint, and let’s make some trouble—Brewtown style.

Just 40min from Wellington City

Award-winning craft beer tastings with food to match? Easy. Guided tours and behind-the-scenes action? Done. Limited edition merch? Of course we have it.

And it doesn’t stop there! Brewtown Upper Hutt is also home to a range of entertainment venues, offering fun for everyone, from axe throwing and escape rooms to go-karting, bowling, and mini golf.

There’s been a craft beer explosion throughout New Zealand, and the Hutt Valley is no exception. What started out as the Dunlop Tyres factory, has now become the hub of Upper Hutt, just 40 minutes from Wellington city. Look around and you’ll see signs of what it used to be. Take a picture with the old Dunlops sign that still sits proudly out front!

OUR STORY

Brewtown is situated within the South Pacific Industrial park owned by developer Malcolm Gillies who bought the 36,000 square metre site in 2008, two years after the closure of South Pacific Tyres.

This hasn’t been owner Malcolm Gillies’ first interaction with the old South Pacific Industrial park. In the late 1970s Malcolm was an apprentice fitter at Upper Hutt’s Dunlop tyre factory, making it fitting he has been instrumental in breathing life into the site given his start there.

What started as a Dunlop Tyre factory in 1949 has now grown to the home of more than 35 businesses, including the Brewtown Upper Hutt precinct, all thanks to a few crafty enthusiasts who saw potential in our city of Upper Hutt.
